frequently asked questions

Below are answers to some of the questions we are most frequently asked.

If you have a question that isn't covered here, please don't hesitate to contact us at oilsandsmusic@gmail.com

  • Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of your scheduled class. This allows enough time to check in and be ready to perform.

  • Late arrivals are handled on a case-by-case basis. In many situations, the participant may be permitted to perform at the end of their scheduled session. However, if the entire session has concluded, the participant may not be eligible to perform or receive an adjudication.

  • No. Please arrive warmed up and ready to perform. If you need to change, washroom facilities are available.

  • Yes. Semi-formal performance attire is strongly recommended.

If you are performing in costume, please ensure it is family-friendly, as festival performances are open to audiences of all ages.

For more information, please see the Festival Etiquette section of the Festival Menu.

  • Please bring original copies of all music being performed. Original music must be submitted at the ticket table during check-in before your performance.

  • Each performer will present their scheduled selection(s). Once all performances in the session are complete, the adjudicator will provide comments and feedback. In some cases, they may also work directly with participants during the session.

At the end of the session, each performer will receive:

    • Their adjudication sheet and certificate

    • Their original music

  • Yes! All festival performances are open to the public.

    Admission:

    • Ages 18–64: $10 per day

    • Season Pass: $30 (includes all festival events except the Grand Concert)

  • No. Receiving a Platinum standing does not automatically qualify a performer for Provincials. Several eligibility criteria must be met. Please refer to the current Festival Syllabus for complete qualification requirements.

  • A platinum performance does not qualify for an award. To qualify for an award, a participant must enter a minimum of three pieces and achieve High Platinum scores. The category must also have at least eight participants/groups competing in the same section.
